There exists no shortage of moments one might have found shocking since Donald Trump began his second term, but I personally find this one a step beyond that; it’s honestly pretty scary.
I am Jewish. I oppose all that Khalil says and stands for, BUT in America we have a saying and it goes something like this, although what you say makes my blood boil and I am opposed to your view, you do have a RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH and I will defend your right with my life. This is one if the hardest things for an American and a Jew to listen to something so against what I believe in but but rump is wrong in his approach. There are ways to address people who are opposed to your way of life. In a free and open society we do not silence people. Although I would like him to be silent that is not our way. Hell 1939 there were Americans who were for Hitler and they were allowed not only to speak but to organize and congregate, does Madison Square Garden 1939 New York ring a bell? As much as it pains me I must take his side. Not in what he says, because in the end I am sure he would want me dead also, but in this country UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, until rump destroys the Constitution, which he probably will, but until then we have been a nation of LAWS and as such the LAW says he must be allowed to speak. It is our greatest strength and our Achilles heel. That there are those who despise our way of life so much that they stand and rant that we are not only wrong but we should not be allowed to exist as a country. I know it makes my blood boil as it does many in our country but we cannot allow free speech to die. We use to have a free press here until those who would deny our rights figured out how to silence the press, by simply buying it up by those who would stop us from speaking. Nice try but you can not shut up an American. We have been shooting our collective mouths off and giving everyone whether or not they wanted to hear it our opinion on any and every subject. From the weather to how we think you should run your own country. I know we abuse the privilege of free speech but that is precisely the point. In any free open democratic country we not only have the right but the obligation to uphold and fight for free speech EVEN IF IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL. There are some limits on free speech, like it is against the law to yell fire in a theater, for very good reason. But in the ideal of free speech we in America can comment on anything and everything that this president and every president before him has ever said or done. It is the bed rock of our democracy it is what we believe. No matter what someone says in this country within reason like not yelling fire in a theater they are free to say almost anything they want. NO MATTER WHAT you cannot stop a person from speaking what they believe in. If that were so would not have donnie dum fuck in the White House. Just the fact that I can call him that and whatever other disparaging remark I can throw his way it is all free speech! No one can stop this basic right. Millions of Americans have fought and died for this very idea. Every war since 1776 one of our basic founding principles has been our bed rock believe in freedom of speech, of democracy, of life, of liberty for ALL. Not just you or him or that other person in the corner but all of us. And even if you are not an American you still have the right, in this country, so far, to stand up and say what is on your mind. Each and everyone of us who has ever put on the uniform of one of our Armed services be it Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard or Space we all took an oath to protect and defend and we signed it with a blank check to pay for it up to and including our lives. I still believe in that oath. I still believe in this country, although it is hard to follow through today but we must. In the end it is up to us, WE THE PEOPLE, for we have the power not those people in Washington DC . Until donnie dum fuck stops me and every other American from quoting the Constitution of the United States of America as long as we remain free I believe in each and every word I have just said. I AM AN AMERICAN FREE PROUD AND IN YORK FACE MR. PRESIDENT. IF ANYONE IN THIS COUNTRY SHOULD SIT DOWN AND SHUT THE FUCK UP IT SHOULD BE YOU. YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE YOU ARE NOT FIT TO LEAD AND CERTAINLY YOU ARE NOT FIT TO TELL ANYONE IF THEY ARE ALLOWED TO SPEAK OR NOT. YOU WERE TOO MUCH A COWARD TO PUT ON THE UNIFORM AND QUITE FRANKLY I AM GLAD YOU DID NOT BECAUSE I COULD NOT EVER CALL YOU MY BROTHER IN ARMS.
I HAVE GONE THIS FAR SO I AM GOING ALL IN I AM PUTTING MY NAME DOWN HERE AS IF I WAS SIGNING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE MYSELF IT IS MY LINE IN THE SAND. IF THEY WANT TO SHUT ME UP THEY CAN TRY TO COME AND TAKE ME. I AM AN AMERICAN AND MY NAME IS DANIEL ROSENBLATT.
The good news is that there are those who take this matter as seriously as it is.
‘No one should underestimate the scale of this assault on democratic rights. This is the rule of the oligarchy in action.’
‘The greatest mistake would be to place any faith in the Democratic Party or the trade union apparatus. The fight to free Mahmoud Khalil is an inseparable part of the broader struggle against the dictatorship of the financial oligarchy. The working class must intervene with its own independent strength to defend democratic rights and oppose the turn to war and dictatorship.’
This should terrify the shit out of every American. They actually initially “disappeared” this individual. It is positively chilling.
Love this article however I wonder if the first few paragraphs couldn’t be more to the point
